The over/under is currently at 41.5 total points and if I’m not mistaken this is one of the highest totals I’ve seen so far this preseason.
The NFL betting public loves Kansas City in this one and currently has 69% of their money behind them as the road favorite.
Kansas City Chiefs:
The Chiefs come into this game after getting a 19-16 Preseason Week 1 win against the San Francisco 49ers. Mahomes played just one drive and ended up with only one completion. The snaps for the rest of that game were split three ways between Anthony Gordon, Shane Buechele and Chad Henne. They combined for pretty good numbers, going for 25 of 37 completions for 192 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception.
The story of Week 1 for the Chiefs was not the offense, but it was the defense who put together five sacks for a total of 40 yards lost. Arizona’s offensive line started out shaky in their first preseason game, so that battle will basically decide who will win or lose this matchup. Head coach Andy Reid said this week that he plans on playing his starters for as long as a half and that’s that you saw the line jump from -1.5 points to -3.
The Chiefs are 2-9-1 against the spread in their last 12 games and the total has gone under in 4 of Kansas City’s last 6 games against an opponent in the NFC West.
Arizona Cardinals:
The Cardinals come into this after getting the 19-16 win in their preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys. Quarterback Kyler Murray didn’t see any action last week, but you’ll see him for a few drives for this one.
Chris Streveler and Colt McCoy ended up taking all the snaps in Week 1. Streveler didn’t look too impressive going just 12 of 24 with no touchdowns.
The story of the game was the backfield of Arizona who put up 168 rushing yards on just 31 attempts. Kansas City’s defense gave up 175 rushing yards to the 49ers last week, so expect Arizona to have another big night on the ground.
Remember the Cardinals have the A.J. Green and DeAndre Hopkins duo, but you won’t get to see them together for this matchup, you’ll see backups Antoine Wesley and KeeSean Johnson.
The Cardinals are 5-2 against the spread in their last 7 games when playing at home against the Chiefs and the total has gone under in 7 of Arizona’s last 8 games played in August.
