NFL Preseason Week 1 kicks off this Thursday Night, August 10, 2023 and I’ll be giving you my Free Picks on the Houston Texans vs New England Patriots game plus NFL Parlay access for the Minnesota Vikings vs Seattle Seahawks game.
Congratulations to everyone who followed me and hit that 2-0 sweep last week on the NFL Preseason Hall of Game Picks with Cleveland Browns +2 and the over.
I’m pumped up and ready to sweep this Thursday Night football board again, so let’s get right into this Texans vs Patriots betting preview.
This matchup is set to start at 7:00pm et at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. It could be a wet matchup since the current weather forecast is showing that there’s a strong chance of rain with wind speeds around 9 miles per hour.
The DraftKings NFL odds have the Texans listed as a -3.5 point favorite against the spread and a -170 money line favorite. The over/under is currently at 36.5 total points. Keep in mind that this line opened up on Saturday with the Texans only a -1.5 point favorite and the total at 38.5 points.
The Houston Texans were 3-13-1 last season and ended up last in the AFC South while losing at least 12 games for the third straight season. The New Patriots had an 8-9 overall record that put them in third place in the AFC East behind the Bills and Dolphins.
The Patriots will start this 2023 NFL season with another strong defense after signing key players back and drafting others. If all goes well for Coach Belichick, you should see him have the Patriots rank among the top defenses in the league.
Houston will begin the CJ Stroud era after confirming that the second overall pick is set to start against New England. Of course you won’t see him take many snaps since Davis Mills and Case Keenum are the backups that will get most of the action. Keep in mind that Davis Mills has a 5-22-1 record in his two year career with 25 interceptions, so watch out for a few turnovers in this game by the New England defense.
Now for Patriots, they plan on sitting Mac Jones and using 3 quarterbacks for this game. You’ll see Bailey Zappe get the start, then Trace McSorley and rookie Malik Cunningham. Zappe played well as a rookie last season, where he completed over 70% of his passes. I’m actually more excited to watch dual threat Quarterback Malik Cunningham. I was a fan of his at Louisville where he passed for almost 10,000 yards and rushed for over 3000 yards, He scored 50 touchdowns in 5 seasons, so there is a ton of upside from Cummingham under the right coaches and system.
So for this Thursday Night football game between the Texans vs Patriots, I’m rolling with the Patriots Team Total to go over 16.5 points at the -110 price.
I also found value on 2 more picks for the Vikings vs Seahawks game and I’m playing them both as a parlay, that’s how much I like this information. These parlays usually go for $99 each, but you’ll get this parlay for free, just tap here now.
