This Big Ten Showdown between Nebraska vs Illinois that goes at 1pm et at Memorial Stadium in Champaign, Illinois.

Martinez didn’t get to start last year against Illinois but in the previous two games he faced them, he combined for a total of 791 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Those big numbers should carry over for this matchup since he’ll be facing this Illinois team that transitioned from a 4-3 defense to 3-4 and Martinez historically does better against the 3-4 defense.
All eyes will be on the Cornhuskers rush attack and how it needs to greatly improve since last season the quarterback was the leading rusher. Last season Nebraska lacked getting turnovers along with a strong pass rush, so I’m sure Coach Frost made improvements in that area and we should see this defense create some big turnovers which could be the difference of them covering that seven point spread.

Illinois comes into this game with veteran coach Bret Bielema now at the helm. He’s got a lot of the plate since the Illini has not had a winning regular season since 2007. The good news is that the Illini will return 22 super seniors, which is the most in the nation, and have 40 seniors overall. With a new head coach and a completely new system, I’m really hoping the Illini can put together a winning season since in the last 5 years, they’ve been terrible.
Illinois at home last season, scored an average of just 19.7 points per game and their defense gave up an average of 35.7 points per game, which is the perfect recipe for losing.
Brandon Peters returns for his fifth college football season and this week named the starting quarterback. In the backfield, running back Chase Brown who was 3rd team All-Big Ten last season will return for another season. He’s going to play a huge factor in the success of this team. Look for Brown to put up a touchdown or two in this one.
The Illini are 1-5 against the spread in their last 6 games played in August and Illinois is 2-8 straight up in their last 10 games against an opponent in the Big Ten conference.
