Baltimore Ravens Betting Preview
The Baltimore Ravens come into this season opener with a ton of questions marks mostly due to how many offseason injuries they’re dealing with. They lost their two staring running backs J.K. Dobbins and Justice Hall. Then on Thursday, they had to stop practice after the new starting running back Gus Edwards and cornerback Marcus Peters both injured their knees. Also, Wide Receivers Rashod Bateman and Miles Boykin will begin their season on injury reserve and Marquise Brown was listed as questionable.
The good news for the Ravens is they have one of the top offensive players in the NFL, Quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson in 15 games last season put up 2,757 yards, 26 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. He rushed for over 1,000 yards and put up seven touchdowns in each of the last two seasons.
With the running backs all banged up, he’ll have even more pressure on his back and hopefully with the extra work load he’ll be able to stay healthy. Jackson only faced the Raiders once in his career and that was when he was a rookie and in that game he threw 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions.
Second year Running Back Ty’Son Willams will be the number one running back entering this game after spending all his rookie season on Baltimore’s practice squad. The other backfield option will be Murray who was just signed this week after being released by the Saints. Also back in April, they signed Sammy Watkins who should be a playmaker for this offense if he’s able to stay healthy.
The Ravens in 2020 had the number one defense in the league that held teams to an average of only 18.5 points per game. They also bring to the table the a top 10 offense that scored an average of 27.3 points per game last season.
Baltimore is 1-4 straight up in their last 5 games against an opponent in the AFC West and the total has gone under in 6 of Ravens last 9 games played in September.
Aaron Jones had 201 carries for 1,104 yards and scored 11 touchdowns in 14 games in 2020. Davante Adams had 115 catches for 1,374 yards and scored 18 touchdowns in 14 games in 2020.
On the defensive end in 2020, they were in the middle of the pack, giving up an average 23.2 points per game. They drafted Georgia cornerback Eric Stokes late in the first round and I’m sure he’ll be looking to get one of those interceptions Jameis will most likely be throwing.
The Packers are 7-1 against the spread in their last 8 games played in September and the total has gone over in 5 of Green Bay’s last 5 games when playing on the road against New Orleans.
Las Vegas Raiders Betting Preview
The Las Vegas Raiders come into their home opener with 4 new offensive linemen and starting running back Josh Jacobs with an injured toe. Jacobs was eighth in the league last season with 1,065 yards and 12 touchdowns. Derek Carr will continue leading this offense and hopefully can have one of his best seasons of his career. In his 16 games last season, Carr had a passer rating of 101.4 with 4,103 yards, 27 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Carr faced the Ravens 3 times in his career and in those matchups he threw for 744 total yards, 8 touchdowns and only had 1 interception. All eyes will be on ex Raven, now Raiders star Tight End Darren Waller. Waller put up 1,196 yards and had 9 touchdowns in 16 games in 2020 and you can fully expect him to put up over 70 yards in this game and hopefully score a touchdown.
The Raiders last season had the third worst defense in the league that gave up an average of 30 points per game. Luckily they were in most games due to their offense that was 10th in the league. They scored an average of 27.1 points per game, which put them right behind Baltimore at tenth overall.
Las Vegas is 4-1 against the spread in their last 5 games played in week 1 and the total has gone over in 7 of the Raiders last 8 games at home.
