For the LA Chargers, they are looking to pick up another win after their 13-6 victory last week against the Rams. Both of these teams held a two-day joint practice this week and Drew Brees actually made an appearance to chat with the players, but in the back of his mind he’s probably thinking about coming out of retirement and throwing on that 49ers jersey to lead them to the Super Bowl this season.
The Chargers have nothing to worry about at Quarterback with Justin Herbert at the helm, but you most likely won’t get to see him for this matchup or at all in the Preseason. You will see backup quarterbacks Chase Daniel and Easton Stick battle it out and they’ll have some help in the backfield if running back Larry Rountree can put on another performance like in Week 1.
San Francisco 49ers:
We all know that the 49ers front office isn’t sold on Jimmy Garoppolo as the their quarterback for the future and he definitely would have been gone last season if another team offered them them a fair deal. Now there’s tons of hype behind the #3 pick of the draft from North Dakota State University, Quarterback Trey Lance, after seeing him play in Week 1.
The media definitely wants to create a quarterback battle here, but I think this is actually the perfect situation for Lance. It’s been reported that he was seen putting in some extra practice time where he was really focusing on red zone scenarios, so it’ll be interesting to see how this game against the Chargers plays out. Jimmy G hasn’t looked so hot this training camp, but he was named the starting Quarterback and you’ll get to see him for few drives in this matchup.
San Francisco lost their NFL Preseason Week 1 game 19-16 against the Chiefs, but overall they played decent as a team. Hasty looked great in the backfield going to 63 yards on just 10 carries and he scored a touchdown.
All eyes will be on the San Francisco’s offensive line, because if they want to make a playoff run this season, they can’t give up five sacks like last week.
