Arsenal’s Audacious Suarez Bid rejected by Liverpool

Uruguay international Suarez is going to appear first for the Reds in this summer in the friendly match against Melbourne Victory.

He set away to Australia on Sunday after being allowed to take an extended leave after the participation in the Confederations Cup. The 26-year-old has repeatedly spoken about the attraction of Real Madrid while he was away. Meanwhile, his agent Pere Guardiola has revealed to Liverpool that he wants to play in the Champions League but will never try to force through a move.

Arsenal’s highest spend on a player till now is the £15million they had paid to Zenit St Petersburg for Andrey Arshavin in 2009. By crossing the £40million mark over, Arsenal shows that Liverpool will have to inform Suarez of the offer. However, it would not trigger a buy-out clause. Liverpool owner John Henry was not pleased even the least with the Gunners' bid as his tweets showed on Wednesday morning: "What do you think they're smoking over there at Emirates?"

The Reds had also rejected a £30million bid from Arsenal earlier. Manager Brendan Rodgers has, however, said that he "very much" expects the star man to be with the club in the coming season. Rodgers said on Monday: "There's been a lot of speculation over the course of the close season but the reality is that he's a player who is very much valued at Liverpool. And unless there's any sort of offer that comes in that's anywhere near his value, there's nothing to consider. We haven't had that."

Asked what that value would be, Rodgers said: "I didn't say we would sell him. I said that every player has a value and a worth. Doesn't mean you've got to sell them."
