Free MLB Picks: Indians @ Mariners; 10:40 PM

The Cleveland Indians is fuming in the AL Central despite opening the second half with a not so excellent showing against one of baseball's worst teams. They will now compete with a club that has the longest winning streak in MLB. The Indians will try to hand over the Mariners their first loss in seven games. After going through a pair of 3-2 losses at Minnesota following the All-Star break, Cleveland (52-46) improved in the final game of the set with Sunday's 7-1 victory. Jason Kipnis had hit a two-run homer – which is his 15th of this season - to lead the offense. The right-hander Justin Masterson allowed one hit over seven innings to earn his 11th win.

MLB picks for today expert reports that the Indians are only 1 1/2 games away from division-leading Detroit, which also lost two of three in Kansas City. Cleveland had whitewashed Mariners from May 17-20, but it appears now that they are making its first trip to Seattle at the wrong time. The Mariners (46-52) have extended their season’s-best winning stretch to six with a 12-5 win at Houston on Sunday. They won on Saturday despite having only one hit, Nick Franklin keyed a seven-run second inning with a grand slam. Dustin Ackley offered three hits and two RBIs too. The Mariners have hit a total of 11 homers and outscored their opponents 44-20. They have got their longest winning stretch since posting eight consecutive wins during Aug. 14-22. They'll now try continuing that production against right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez who is at 7-4 with a 4.56 ERA. Jimenez is 3-0 with a 3.75 ERA over his last seven outings. Jimenez, however, could not sail through the fifth inning in his latest start – which was his shortest since June 7 - producing four runs in four-plus innings in a 6-4 win over Kansas City on July 14.

Free Baseball predictions expert reports that Jimenez is now at 2-0 with a 4.21 ERA in four career starts against the Mariners. He has faced them once this season, when they showed a performance with striking out nine and allowing two runs in five-plus innings before going out without a decision in a 6-3 win May 17. Michael Saunders is 4 for 8 with one home run lifetime when he faced Jimenez and will be looking to extend a 10-game hitting streak overall. Seattle's Aaron Harang (4-8, 5.38 ERA) is looking for a bounce back from one of his worst starts, where he allowed seven runs, eight hits and a season-high three walks that spanned over five-plus innings in an 11-4 loss to Boston on July 10. The right-hander went 2-1 with a 2.45 ERA in his earlier five starts. Harang is now at 4-2 with a 2.95 ERA in 10 career starts against the Indians. However, he hasn't faced them since 2010 when he was a member of Cincinnati. Michael Bourn has a record with Harang, going 7 for 17 with a triple and two doubles against him since the beginning of the 2010 season. Against the Mariners, he went 7 for 18 in the first game-series of this season.  Kipnis had gone 8 for 17 including one home run in that set, leaving him with a .419 average. He had two homers and six RBIs over a seven-game hitting streak against Seattle.
